Dickson Named Interim Chair of Department of Management & Marketing

Dr. Kevin Dickson, professor in the Department of Management & Marketing, was named to serve as the interim chair of the department, effective July 1, 2017. Dickson joined the Department of Management and Marketing in 2004. He holds a Ph.D. degree in management from the University of Texas at Austin. He also received a Master of Organizational Behavior and Bachelor of Arts, both from Brigham Young University. He has been serving since January 2015 as the director of the Jane Stephens Honors Program at Southeast. An interim director has been appointed while he serves as chairperson. 

At Southeast, Dickson has received the Outstanding MBA Teaching Award, the Donald L. Harrison College of Business Students’ Choice Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007 and 2016, a distinguished research award from the Allied Academics, Outstanding Reviewer Award from the OB Division of the Academy of Management and was a Copper Dome Faculty Fellow in Teaching for the Donald L. Harrison College of Business. He is also a past recipient of a competitive summer research grant from the Provost’s Office. 

“Dr. Dickson brings significant experience in human resource management and academic affairs to his new role as interim chair of the Department of Management and Marketing. He is a valued addition to the leadership team in the Harrison College of Business. I have personally valued Kevin’s insights and look forward to working with him during this academic year,” said Dr. Judy Wiles, interim dean of the Harrison College of Business. 

Dickson has been published in the Journal of Management Inquiry; the Journal of Behavioral and Applied Management; the Journal of Management in Engineering; and the Journal of Organizational Culture, Communications, and Conflict. 

Dickson has traveled to Ribe, Denmark and Belo Horizonte, Brazil, as a visiting professor and alongside students to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, D.C. as well as to Great Britain, Belgium and France.  

He served as Chair of Faculty Senate for the 2011-2012 academic year. He is a member of the Academy of Management, the Society for Human Resource Management, Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi.
